(casein-beta(193-202)) Liu et al (2019) have reported that beta-casein(193-202) (YQEPVLGPVR; Tyr-Gln-Glu-Pro-Val-Leu-Gly-Pro-Val-Arg), a fragment of beta-casein termed PICA peptide by the authors, possesses strong anticoagulant activities. The peptide does not interact with the active site of thrombin to inhibit thrombin, but inhibits thrombin activity by binding the exosite-1 of thrombin. The peptide prolongs fibrinogen clotting time in a dose-dependent manner.
